![]() ![]() At work, a customer brings back a defective Buddi doll (the same one from before) after complaining that its eyes were glowing red. Karen and Andy also meet their neighbor, Detective Mike Norris (Brian Tyree Henry), who lives with his mother Doreen (Carlease Burke). Making things more difficult is that Karen is dating Shane (David Lewis), whom Andy sees as a jerk. They have settled into a new apartment, and Andy is pretty lonely with no friends. Karen goes home to her son, Andy (Gabriel Bateman), who wears a hearing aid. Karen clarifies that it's because the doll they are looking for is the Buddi 2 that hasn't come out yet. In Chicago, we meet Karen Barclay (Aubrey Plaza) as she works at her job, ZedMart, where a customer is complaining that the Buddi doll he ordered isn't blonde like his kid wanted. After sending the doll out for distribution, the employee jumps out a window and lands on his boss's car. Out of spite, the employee programs the doll to have all of its safety functions turned off. He fires him but also orders him to finish the doll that he has been working on. At the Kaslan factory in Vietnam, the manager berates one of his employees for slacking on the job. The Buddis can connect to the owners' electronics system and adapt to their routines to help them in their day-to-day lives. ![]() Again, this is a smart move that freshens up the Child's Play franchise that mixes in horror, action and comedy that embodies the spirit of the original film franchiseÄirected by Lars Klevberg from a script by Tyler Burton Smith, Child's Play stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman, Tim Matheson and Mark Hamill.The movie starts with an ad for the Buddi dolls, made by major tech developer Kaslan Industries. Theses cuddly critters are a legion wreaking havoc and who the humans clearly underestimated at their own peril. The Buddi Bears fiercely loyal robots, programmed to listen to Chucky alone and not develop a conscience, like the original Chucky's old cult. Many were expecting Chucky to do something obvious by controlling the other Buddi dolls like him, but by commanding the bears, the film creates some unexpected, totally different tiny terrors. And when Chucky commands his drones to attack all the shoppers, he ups the ante with this fuzzy, lethal Buddi Bear legion. These new Buddi Bears also have different hairstyles and clothes, basically acting as the cutest variants to the mainstream Chucky line. They'll leave you going "Awww!" one moment and grimacing at their sheer aggression the next. That's when Chucky unleashes the violent Buddi Bears, who wear Chucky's clothes but coming off like flesh-eating monsters. The ensuing drama culminates in Chucky taking control of all the Buddi-linked tech at the Zed Store on an overcrowded night sale similar to Black Friday. After being discarded by Andy, he returns to his apartment complex as a doll scorned, pretending to be another kid's toy and looking to exact revenge on everyone who tried to keep him and the boy apart. In the final act, Chucky (voiced by Mark Hamill) really cuts loose on a store full og unsuspecting innocents in a full-blown revenge mode.
